The interview: Small firm, big thinking

Law firms are not known for being nimble. But the Nachman Phulwani Zimovcak (NPZ) Law Group, P.C. , a five-attorney firm led by attorney David Nachman, is making bold moves. The immigration-focused practice has set up an emergency hotline and opened offices in Canada and India to better serve their international clientele. Raise the Bar chatted with Nachman about these unique moves.

Your firm recently launched an emergency hotline. What kinds of situations is it meant to address, and what prompted its creation?
Our immigration emergency hotline is designed to address urgent situations such as sudden deportation threats, unexpected changes in immigration status, or the need for immediate legal representation during critical moments.
Its creation was prompted by the increasing complexity and urgency surrounding immigration issues, particularly in light of evolving policies and regulations that can leave individuals and families in precarious situations. The hotline aims to provide swift assistance and support to those in distress, ensuring they have access to legal guidance when they need it most.
Is it getting used?
Early feedback indicates that the hotline is being utilized, highlighting its importance in the community and the need for immediate legal resources during emergencies.
What are you doing to prepare clients so they aren’t stuck in emergency situations?
In the past year, many of the firm’s international clients have increasingly expressed concerns about the unpredictability of immigration policies and the potential impact of rising global tensions on their status in the U.S.
We’re pushing the companies we work with to do risk assessments that identify and address potential vulnerabilities in their workforce. It’s time to be proactive about mitigating the risks associated with changing political rhetoric.
And you’ve also opened offices or affiliated with offices overseas?
We opened offices in Canada and India to better serve our international clientele and address the growing demand for immigration services across borders. Having offices in these countries allows us to tap into local expertise and better understand the unique legal landscapes. This localized approach enables us to provide more tailored services to our clients, addressing their specific needs.
That’s not something most five-attorney firms are doing.
Ultimately, this move reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality immigration law and comprehensive support to our clients. We want to ensure they have access to the best possible guidance in a rapidly changing global environment.
